SVGOMG SVGO plugins

Remove raster images (removeRasterImages)

Deletes embedded PNG/JPEG inside SVG. Shrinks file size but removes bitmap content.

What Remove raster images does in SVGO

SVGO applies removeRasterImages as part of its plugin pipeline. In SVGOMG the toggle is labeled Remove raster images (off by default). Optimization runs entirely in your browser — files are not uploaded to a server.

Use the SVGOMG optimizer with Show original to compare before and after. If output looks wrong, disable this plugin first, then re-enable related transforms one at a time.

When to enable

Pure vector artwork that accidentally embedded a raster.

When to disable

Any SVG that intentionally mixes vector and bitmap (common in Illustrator).

Watch out for

Will leave empty space or broken visuals if the image was essential.

Try it in SVGOMG

  1. Open svgomg.net and load your SVG (file, paste, or demo).
  2. Find Remove raster images in the Features panel (removeRasterImages).
  3. Toggle the plugin and compare the preview; download when satisfied.
